The Road to
Rhodes Village is happily far from any major centre, and getting there is half the fun. The trick is to find your way to Barkly East or Elliot and than take the gravel road (a good 60 Kms) through the mountains.
The road is usually in pretty good condition and any old jaloppy will get you there, but drive carefully. Hairpin bends that really do amazing twists are a regular feature.
In heavy rains or snow, however, the road can be treacherous and extreme care is needed. If you're uncertain, always phone the hotel once you get to Barkly/Elliot to check on road conditions.
